Who is Arosha?

Welcome to Minting rupees. My friends call me Arosha! So I guess you can call me Arosha, too? πŸ™‚

I’m the guy behind the blog and glad you stumbled upon it. If you are wondering why you should read what this bald-headed guy is saying, hear me out.

First;

I’m a self-proclaimed numbers geek.

Arosha

Yeah I love numbers and stare at them all day. It can also be called an occupational hazard.

I borrowed a considerable sum of money from my father when I turned 18, and managed to grow it 500% trading in capital markets and lost everything over 18 months. Yeah in case you are wondering I paid it back in full but I learnt a lesson the hard way.

Okay, I agree that may not be the street cred you are looking for.

How about; I’m an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountant Sri Lanka and The Chartered Institute of Management Accountant UK ( It says Chartered so I guess it has to be legit, right ?) with an undergraduate degree in Business and Management.

Does that help?

If not, I have worked in the Insurance, Banking & Finance, Professional Services, and Manufacturing sectors for some of the largest Multinational Brands across Asia and Europe. I have worked closely with the C-Suite covering accounting, audit & assurance, transaction advisory, operational finance, supply chain finance, trade finance, investment management & corporate/banking Treasury related functions covering almost all aspects of finance.

If still not convinced I might have you for lunch πŸ˜€

Why are you here?

Most Sri Lankans are proud of the fact that we have a high literacy rate in comparison to the rest of the world. However, this does not translate to financial literacy and many people struggle with personal finances.

Majority of the time you can’t understand the lingo which is spoken by many finance professionals so end up doing the bare minimum ( just a secret between us , it’s not that complicated but if we make it simple people don’t take us seriously and we can’t convince HR to give us that big increment at the end of the year πŸ˜‰ )

So if you don’t invest in yourself to understand these basic concepts no one will teach them to you.

So I have one mission should you choose to accept it? ( Imagine it being said in the same tone as the head of the secret service at MI-6 where James Bond is handed over a new mission)

That is to help you gain a full understanding of personal finances so that one day you can experience what “financial freedom tastes like”?

All I can say is it’s delicious (and low on calories) πŸ˜‰
